Villa Marie is registered under the Nursing Home Support Scheme, also known as “The Fair Deal”. Under the Fair Deal the amount a person pays is calculated by the HSE and depends on their own individual circumstances. A person is entitled to live in any nursing home covered under the scheme.

The HSE pays us to provide

  • Bed & Board.
  • Nursing & personal care appropriate to the level of care needs of the person.
  • Laundry Service.
  • Basic aids & appliances necessary to assist a person with the activities of daily living.

The HSE does not pay us to provide the following:

  • Social Programmes such as Activities.
  • Physiotherapy
  • Daily delivery of newspapers
  • Incontinence Wear
  • Ophthalmic and dental services
  • Transport (including care assistant costs)
  • Specialised wheelchairs
  • Hairdressing and other similar services
  • Non-GMS medicines & dressings (billed by pharmacy).
  • Chiropody
  • Dry cleaning

The HSE provide incontinence wear for each resident requiring same and have specific guidelines in relation to the type and quantity of pads allocated to each resident.

Ophthalmic and dental services are provided to medical card holders and Villa Marie strive to provide these services in-house to our residents, however we are subject to the same approval waiting time that a resident living at home in the community would be.

Residents who are entitled to chiropody on the medical card are facilitated by having appointments arranged for them where requested. Villa Marie will organise an in-house chiropodist to attend to any resident who wishes to have a private treatment done in Villa Marie.

Please note that a medical card chiropody treatment cannot be availed of in Villa Marie as in our experience the medical card service does not facilitate the chiropodists to attend to residents in private nursing homes.

Villa Marie will always facilitate residents to have choice in relation to which practitioner they will be attended to in relation to the above services.

A physiotherapist visits Villa Marie Nursing Home weekly and has an important role in the development and implementation of each resident’s care plan. The Nursing Team or Resident’s G.P. shall decide who will benefit from physiotherapy based on the residents care needs, however, every resident will be re-assessed on an as required basis.

While an initial assessment by the physiotherapist is covered by Villa Marie, if any resident requires a course of physiotherapy there will be an additional cost for this.

A full price list for hairdressing services is available to view in the hall at Villa Marie and is subject to change.

Our Fair deal rate is set by the National Treatment Purchase Fund and is currently 1,245 euro per week plus service charge. Accommodation may be either a single or a shared room.

We add a weekly service charge to every resident admitted to us under the Fair Deal Scheme. This service charge is for extra services not covered by the NTPF under Fair Deal, such as daily delivery of newspapers, physiotherapy, toiletries & activities programmes. We will invoice this to everybody’s bill and this will be reviewed every year. We apply this fee to all resident’s invoices whether they use all of the services or not.

Other services not covered, either by the Nursing Home Support Scheme or by the weekly service charge include, but are not limited to:

  • Transport (including cost of a care assistant to go with the resident when being transported).
  • Chiropody (on a private basis).
  • Specialised wheelchairs.
  • Specialised pressure relieving mattresses.
  • Specialised beds.
  • Hairdressing and other similar services.
  • Non-GMS medicines and dressings (bill payable directly to pharmacy).
  • Ophthalmic and dental services (on a private basis).
